Before the City is an ongoing photographic series exploring the southern edge of Vienna, where the city meets agricultural land. Focusing on Oberlaa, Rothneusiedl and Neulaa, the work documents a landscape on the verge of transformation as fields and open spaces are gradually replaced by new housing developments.

Rather than depicting the process of construction, the photographs linger on what still exists: quiet streets, detached houses, hedges, walls and fields that define the fragile boundary between urban and rural space. Made on black-and-white film, the series considers photography as a way of preserving places whose appearance will soon disappear.
